Position Summary:
Troubleshoots, adjusts, repairs, and conducts preventative maintenance on Port Houston cranes.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
Apply technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems to determine equipment malfunction and restore it to OEM standards
Inspect, repair, and maintain wharf and RTG cranes
Maintain routine records related to work performed and materials used
Diagnose, repair and install machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors, stored energy systems and engines (for RTGs only), and other related parts
Diagnose, repair and install electrical controls and circuits for a variety of electrical equipment such as switches, sensors, lighting systems and motors
Use hand tools such as hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, multi meters, conduit benders and other tools common to mechanical and electrical trades
Read and use factory manuals, blueprints, sketches and drawings as required to install and troubleshoot equipment
Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
Effectively communicate service timeline and field repairs with Operations/Maintenance groups

Perform other duties as required
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent required
4+ years related mechanic experience required
4+ years related electrical experience required
Electrical Journeyman License preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:
Knowledge of relevant electrical codes such as the National Electrical code
Knowledge of basic electronic troubleshooting and repairs
Knowledge of control circuits, DC and AC motor maintenance, power distribution, and overall function of container handling cranes
Knowledge of electrical controls and circuits installed on Port Houston equipment
Ample knowledge of electricity, electrical systems and equipment
Knowledge of safety precautions necessary to deal with occupational hazards
General working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel)
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to obtain State of Texas Electrician's license
Knowledge of programmable logic controller and variable frequency drive
Knowledge of medium and high voltage switch gear is desired
Judgment and quick thinking skills
Ability to climb and be comfortable at heights
Knowledge diagnostics and repair
Ability to weld is desired
Knowledge of mechanics
Knowledge of millwright repair and maintenance
Knowledge of safety precautions concerning occupational hazards
Ability to work with others
Ability to pay attention to detail
Ability to operate a forklift
A current, valid Texas driver's license is required
A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment
